ENYA to discuss how to strengthen the Protection and Promotion of the rights of children in Alternative Care

As part of the ENYA (European Network of Young Advisors) child participation project 2024, children and young people from across Europe have been working on the ENOC annual theme: “The Protection and the  Promotion of the Rights of Children in Alternative Care”.

The 15 participating teams in the ENYA project 2024 came from Andalusia/Spain, Armenia, Basque country/Spain, Catalonia/Spain, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Malta, Northern Ireland/UK, Ukraine, and Wales/UK.

From February to June 2024, ENYA country teams conducted several activities related to the annual theme, including meetings with experts and other stakeholders. The purpose of ENYA domestic activities was to support participating children and young people to form and express informed views, and to share their experiences in a safe and inclusive environment. Based on their views and experiences, each ENYA team elaborated and proposed up to five action-oriented recommendations for better protection and promotion of the rights of this specific group of children.

ENYA country recommendations were further presented and discussed on the occasion of the ENYA 2024 Forum, which was held on 1-2 July 2024, in Bratislava, Slovakia. The event was hosted by the Office of the Commissioner for Children, Slovakia. The ENOC Secretariat along with the ENOC Chair (Flanders/Belgium), the Chair-elect (Finland) and the Children’s Commissioners for Andalusia, Iceland and Malta were also in attendance.

ENYA participants prioritized and voted on the final recommendations which were introduced to Ombudspersons for Children at the ENOC Annual Conference on 18-19 September 2024 in Helsinki and further integrated in the ENOC policy position statement addressing the rights of children in alternative care.
